Meanwhile, in realityworld, they're in the same weight division and look just as feminine as each other.Hamori also has a terrible w/l ratio, I'm surprised she even put up a fight. Makes you wonder if Carini intentionally threw the match? She has 100+ fights under her belt. Possibly for an IBA payout of $50k that made the news today? Very sus.

Is she just a super high testosterone female? I can't click on any page without some political crap spewed into it.
22
u/FriedTreeSap Aug 03 '24
The answer is that nobody without insider information can possibly definitively tell you the truth. We know she was officially banned by the international governing of boxing for failing an undisclosed gender test, but said organization has allegations of corruption and has been dropped by the IOC. Due to confidentiality laws, they cannot release the details of the test.
In other words, this means there is no proof that she isn’t female, but there is also no proof that the International Boxing Association fraudulently disqualified her. So in typical internet fashion, both sides are taking the lack of conclusive evidence as proof that their side is right.
*And if she does have an intersex condition, things can be complicated. Even if she hypothetically has XY chromosomes, that doesn’t preclude the possibility she could still be female with Swyer Syndrome….conversely the fact she was assigned female at birth, also doesn’t preclude the possibility she could be a male with 5 alpha reductase deficiency (a condition where a person has internal testes and goes through male puberty, but can be outwardly mistaken as female due to a lack of a developed penis, this is the same condition that Caster Sameyna has).
→ More replies (2)9
u/StamosAndFriends Aug 03 '24
The now defunct International Boxing Association said their testing showed she had testosterone similar to that of a man’s, suggesting she’s likely some intersex condition, and so banned her. Because the IBA is defunct, the Olympic committee, which usually leaves gender requirements to the individual sports, is setting the requirements for boxing now. They’ve only stated they look at gender on passport. Sports like Track and Field have defined rules and testing, which is why 2016 gold medalist Caster Semenya is now banned competing against women for being intersex. The IBA never published the results, the Olympic committee doesn’t do any testing and doesn’t trust the IBA, so nobody knows for sure. The main issue for me is boxing has no clear guidelines or testing anymore that could set this straight.
6
u/NotMarkDaigneault United States Aug 03 '24
Thank you for the response! That's wild that they have no clear guidelines for such a high level of sport. Hopefully they can figure it out after this.
4
u/enormousTruth Aug 03 '24
Yes. It is interesting how every other high level combat sport promotion ie ufc, wbc, pfl, etc. All test for performance enhancements and testosterone levels yet the olympics is devoid of any fair testing or regulations.
Politics aside, simply going by a simple paper passport in lieu of testing t levels in combat sports is on a closer level to backyard worldstar hiphop

Right wingers: ATHLETES SHOULD COMPETE AS THEIR BIRTH GENDER
Same right wingers: NOT LIKE THAT
18
u/this_place_stinks Aug 03 '24
While I agree there the left wingers yelling that birth genitals are the deciding factor here (for intersex person) is inadvertently contrary to the prevailing trans position for folks like Lia Thomas
These governing bodies just need to publish a set of criteria for trans/intersex people in gender segregated sports to remove ambiguity
35
u/GuiltyEidolon Aug 03 '24
The IOC literally already has rules in place for trans and intersex athletes. They have had these rules for the better part of two decades.
13
u/this_place_stinks Aug 03 '24
They have a “framework”, and also various panels etc. I’m saying list out the intersex genetic syndromes and map them to either men’s or women’s, as an example.
Going case by case doesn’t work at all for either the athletes or the leagues.

I don’t believe she ever tested positive for elevated testosterone. There’s a lot of rumors and false tales circulating so it’s hard to differentiate. It seems like as soon as one thing is debunked a new thing comes along to challenge that. But for the record as of this writing Snopes says when she was banned by the now-discredited Russian-controlled IBA, there was buzz that it was for elevated testosterone but the IBA denied it. The IBA also did say it was for having a Y chromosome but the tests are supposed to be confidential so that can’t be confirmed and in any case the IBA later phrased things in vague terms as her failing a test, but wouldn’t say which test. So basically we can’t confirm anything about her hormones or her genes. We just have the word of a corrupt and discredited organization with no proof, as well as the knowledge she had zero problems at any other time even though she had many tests.

the drama surrounding this shows that society doesn't understand biology as well as it thinks. why must a woman look a certain way to be considered a woman? should they start banning athletes who do not fit specific hormone requirements? how about we go back to the old olympics where dudes competed naked?
she deserved her win bc she worked hard for it. the people mad at this dont even know that boxing has weight classes, i can tell. she isn't some giant bully. you WILL get hit in boxing. stop crying

There isn't even any evidence that she has any hormone imbalances. That was a myth perpetuated by the IBA, a corrupt Russian organization who disqualified Imane specifically after she beat a Russian athlete. The only reason people are calling her a man is because she doesn't fit Western standards of femininity.

The iba didn't even say there were hormone imbalances, the head of it claimed the test showed xy chromosomes. The hormone imbalance part of the narrative is entirely made up out of thin air

u/DecoDecoMan Aug 03 '24
That is also true. I forgot that. So much fabrication and lies are being spewed as though they were true for this case. So much is unsubstantiated.

Hamori deserved every bit of damage her face got. Her actions pre-fight were disgusting and this is a worthy entry of "When trash talking goes wrong."

Love that she’s in a sport where you get to literally beat the shit out of your competitor. Like that’s not the point at all, but it’s a really nice bonus when your opponent decides to be a total piece of shit and you get to not only beat them in sport, but do so by literally beating the crap out of them 😂

The moment you are scared of your opponent is when you have lost half of the match.

Hungarian should have been disqualified for her nasty racist comment. I am glad she lost, but she is completely unprofessional and should face consequences for her racism.

So she is a woman all along. It's kinda crazy how news outlets just roll with it these days without any fact checking. I haven't really watched or read about this but one day I saw the title of "some girl punches really hard like a man so I quit".
People just make judgements just on title. Pitiful how media outlets love profiting from yellow journalism. She should sue for damages in the states.

If you haven't, please read the reactions (including among the other competitors) when three Africans made the podium in women's 800m in 2016.
It's the exact same thing we are seeing today with Imane Khelif. So many Euros and Americans just want us there as fodder and anything more than that is going to be pooping and crying from them. Absolutely hoping she grabs the gold at this point.

Should’ve focused on training instead of complaining.

The fact that Hamori clearly depicts herself as a dainty, thin, tiny woman and imane as an Ogre….. WHILE SHE HAS THE SAME BODY TYPE AS HER

u/Puzzleheaded-Tie-740 Aug 03 '24
Post these photos in a TERF space with a completely unsourced claim that she has XY chromosomes, and they'd have a field day transvestigating her and pointing out all the "dead giveaways."

It's pretty funny that she's comparing herself to the woman in Beauty and the Beast.
The woman who eventually falls in love with the Beast and, eventually, sleeps with him.
There's a lot of psychology there, and I won't wade through it.

Should we be expecting Hamori to start shitposting again...
Anyways congratulations to Imane🎉

I hope not. They honestly seemed to be very respectful and friendly (outside of the actual boxing) during their bout.

I love how the picture calls her “The Pride of Algeria” in arabic. I have seen nothing but support for her from my fellow middle easterners online.
She deserves all the positive reinforcement in the world after the horrible transphobic, racist, and misogynistic attacks that she endured.

Quick reminder that most of the kerfuffle about this boxer originate from Russian bot farms.

As a woman myself, who is on the stockier side, with a lot of naturally growing body hair, and who sometimes gets mistaken for a man, I really feel for her. And all the awfulness she had to endure this past week.
Glad she prevailed over her opponent. That AI meme that was posted was misleading and mean!

Soo happy for her! I didn’t even know about her until a few days ago, I have nothing to do with Algeria, but I hope she keeps doing well. Nobody deserves to go through what people like JK Rowling, Logan Paul and the wannabe Tony Stark made her go through, well deserved win!

She should keep fighting, she’s clearly built for it and the more people she riles up the more reason she has to fight on

She was born with a vagina and still has one. This is no different than Phelps and all his biological advantages. She's got more test so what she was born with and still has a vagina. The fact that even the most right wing person doesn't get this is mind blowing and this I coming from someone who was upset when they heard it was a trans person boxing a female until I looked into it myself.

I remember when people were saying Serena Williams seemed like too much of a man to compete fairly in women’s tennis. These people are ridiculous. There’s usually some racism in there too if you check.

Garanteed at least bronze no? I don't think they play bronze medal match in boxing and simply awards bronze to both semi-final losers.
