Hemnes dresser drawer board sagging

Upvotes

The board that forms the bottom of the dresser drawers is falling through to the layer below, making it difficult to open and close the drawers. This probably happened because I Konmari folded everything, which I didn't realize would be too heavy. After a friend suggested supergluing the inserts, I tried to take the drawers apart to do so, but couldn't get the plastic pegs out of all the drawers.

Is there anything I can do to reinforce the boards or should I just sell this and get a new one?

Need Hacking Advice

Upvotes

Hello! I have the YTTERVÅG four-poster bed in the queen size. I want make some curtains or a sort of canopy for the bed to keep heat in during the winter, but I'm unsure how to proceed. I'm hoping not to drill any holes, so if anyone has hacked this with a fabric solution, let me know.

help Template for building PAX 1.0 wardrobe?

Is there a template for building your own PAX 1.0 wardrobe aside from just copying the instructions? Specifically talking about the 29 1/2" x 22 7/8" x 92 7/8" version. The new 2.0 system does not instill a lot of confidence in the materials used. My wife and I were looking to make some modifications for our closet but it does not seem that would be as easy with the 2.0 so we are considering building our own frame instead of buying and modifying. Thanks for any help that can be provided!

Has anyone stripped paint from a Bergmund Bar Stool?

Looking for any advice for how to strip the white (or black option) acrylic paint from the wooden legs of these stools. I haven’t bought them yet, but we’re looking for for comfy stools that preferably have wooden-looking legs for our kitchen. We already have bergmund dining chairs and would love it if we could get the stool legs to match somewhat with them.

I am assuming that the same wood might be used for these as the dining chairs, and would definitely do some patch tests first, but I was just curious whether anyone has attempted this before and whether you’d recommend paint stripper, sanding, both, or another method.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hi guys wanted to pick your brains. I was looking at getting a Hauga tv bench to put at the end of my bed for blanket/ jumper storage and wondered if I put some padding on top if it would be strong enough to sit on?

If not would there be a way to allow for this by grabbing some extra supports or a new top section? Thanks

Change felt panels from LARKOLLEN doors for PLATSA wardrobe

Hello

Has anyone tried to change the panelling from the LARKOLLEN doors and if so how?

The sliding doors in the PLATSA wardrobe look nice and actually will save space, but I wish there would be more options in colours/materials.

help BEKANT corner to „Normal“ tabletop: how to keep my standing desk without buying a new one?

So, here‘s the situation: I bought a BEKANT corner desk long ago (one side being 60 cm, one being 110 cm long) since it fit my living setup best back then. In 2020, after being sent to home office, I bought the electric frame for it since I wanted to keep the standing desk option from the office. This has been in use ever since.

Now, after moving to a different flat with a different office space and growing out of it, I start to dislike the corner desk setup for a couple of reasons and want to get rid of it. The goal is to keep the electric frame where possible (motor and legs) and replace the tabletop with a normal, 80 cm one.

Now the question is how? Since ikea dropped BEKANT in Europe and people are only selling full frames in used condition, I lack connectors. Additionally, the non-electric one is not compatible with the electric legs. What other options do I have besides buying an entirely new desk? Can I combine the new MITTZON frame with the electric legs from BEKANT?

TL;DR: replace corner tabletop with normal one but keep electric BEKANT legs. What are my options without buying a full used frame?

help Can I cut the back plyboard of a PAX wardrobe?

I need to open a small window on the back panel of my PAX wardrobe, approximately 30 x 40 cm. Would it compromise the structural integrity in the long run? I need to cut from the middle folding seam horizontally to the side panel.

IVAR help?!

I love the IVAR shelves - and I’ve used them in 5 different spaces as my life has evolved. However, I have yet to find the perfect storage containers to fit 2 across with minimal wasted space. Either they have to overlap (as pictured here - and far from ideal) or they leave a large gap of wasted space. These are the Sterilite Clearview Latch - 32Qt and 66Qt are the sizes I use most often for storage.

Can anyone please give me links to similar sizes that actually fit well? I don’t mind that they hang off the front by a bit, and I am in the US fwiw.

Soft Close Drawer Options

Now that the MARKHUS is unavailable (at least here in the US), are there any options for making a dresser/desk that ISN'T the BESTÅ soft close? I'm looking at purchasing the HEMNES desk and liked everything about it except the lack of soft close. Whenever I look it up I get older threads. I'm just trying to get the most up to date answers.

Modifying regular besta to have TV cutout

The wife and I couldn't get the besta TV unit 80566037 we wanted for wall mounting when we were at IKEA so we purchased three regular ones 30245850. My question is would it be easy to modify the regular besta frame so that it has the cutout for TV cables? It'd be ideal if I could eventually get the TV unit glass top to go on top of the unit I modify.

help What desk/tabletop material to pick from?

So I bought 2 alex drawers, and now I am table top searching. Because Ikea doesn't have the specific size I want (55x28), I have to resort searching for tops elsewhere. My budget is around 100 CAD, and I have found 2 options on amazon, but I have no idea what is better.

This is a particleboard: https://www.amazon.ca/SANODESK-Whole-Piece-Particle-Standing-55x28x1/dp/B0C6X731DZ/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8&th=1

This is a chipboard: https://www.amazon.ca/FLEXISPOT-Thickness-Adjustable-Rectangular-Tabletop/dp/B07P95MRC4/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8&th=1

I see in both of these links that the different colours also have different finishes, which makes picking even harder. What finish is better? For the Flexispot, the maple has a maple finish, the black has an engineered wood finish.

Any direction is appreciated.

Refilling Ektorp Back Cushions with Feathers from a High-End Sofa

I've acquired some feather-filled back cushions from a high-end English sofa which is extremely comfy and supportive. I’m thinking about using the feathers to replace the filling of the back cushions of my Ektorp.
Anyone ever tried this or anything similar? Any tips or advice would be most welcome!

Concerned About Trotten Standing Desk Shaft Durability – Replacement Part Help Needed

Hi everyone,

I just got a Trotten standing desk (second-hand from someone who used it for a year), and I’m a bit worried that the shaft which raises the desk might be the weakest part (there are some small dents on the shaft). I’m considering ordering a replacement shaft in advance, just in case this one breaks, but I can't seem to find it anywhere (Ali/Amazon). The part doesn't even have a number listed in the Trotten manual. I can't even properly google it, I don't know how this one is called.

Any ideas?

Besta sideboards - getting the legs in between the doors

Hi all.

I've bought 2 Besta sideboards, one is 120cm in length and the other is 60cm in length. I want to put these side-by-side to create a sideboard that is 180cm in length.

Is there a way to connect feet (the OSARP metal cylindrical legs) in between the join where the cabinets meet so that they doesn't look off-centre?

Any tips and advice would be great. Thanks!

HELP! Reparing a BRIMNES Bed & Replacing Item 112977. Is it even worth it?

Dear fellow IKEA hack enthusiasts,

I'm about to tackle a repair on a Brimnes bed and would love any advice or tips you might have.

Here’s the situation: Our Brimnes bed stopped functioning properly after an overweight guest pushed it to its limits. Piece 112977 bent badly, and the screws were ripped completely out of the wood, making it impossible to reattach them.

My plan is to order a replacement piece (112977) from IKEA, fill the damaged screw holes with wood putty (or a similar product—any recommendations are welcome), and then install the new piece and screw it back in.

Do you think this approach will work? Is it even worth the effort?

EDIT - CONTEXT: I'm not particularly handy, though I can assemble furniture, do basic drilling, hang frames, and handle simple cabling—basically, the sort of things anyone can do with a bit of caution and some YouTube tutorials.

Thanks in advance for your help!

help Noisy Malm Bed, how to fix?

So I’ve had my malm bed for about 9-10 years now and I love it. The only downside is that it started creaking around 2 years ago. I replaced the middle beam because it broke so it’s not that. The slats don’t make noise. It sounds like it’s the frame Itself that connect to the head and foot boards. I recently moved and had to reassemble the bed and the first night or two it was silent but now it’s noisier than ever. How can I fix this? I can’t afford to get a new bed over something so minor.

Billy Bookcase ‘built in’ advice?

Thumbnail
image
26 Upvotes

Hi!! I’ve started in on my built in project, and hoping to ask for some advice. We are using the KALLAX we already had (in black) as the middle of our entertainment center, and we have 4 Billy’s on either side with the extenders (2 narrow, 2 wide). Couple of questions:

•Do you recommend painting the wall first and then securing the bookshelves and painting the same color? Or secure the bookshelves first and then paint everything at the same time?

•What color do you recommend? We have red oak floors, a burgundy large couch, and we are going to get a different rug than what is pictured

•should I have both narrow bookcases on the “inside” (ie closer to the tv) or the “outside” (closer to the wall)? In the picture I have both options set up to compare

•anything else y’all would recommend I think about before going any further?

TIA!!

How on earth is this floating cabinet mounted?

I've bought all of the parts on the list for this.

But non of them included any form.of mounting brackets.

Have ikea just fired some wood screws through the sides of the tall units or is there an ikea part number that is for.mounting these single units to wall so they are 'floating'
