It's all to set the illusion that when Harris refuses his manipulation it is her avoiding the debate.

u/FlimsyConclusion Aug 03 '24
Yup. They set it a week ahead of the actual planned debate, so Trump can get a nice photo op standing next to an empty podium citing a chicken Harris while he rants uninterrupted in a stadium at Fox news.
They're trying to steal the debate narrative.

u/DonJuniorsEmails Aug 03 '24
This is why I'm convinced they already have the plans to cheat. Some legal trickery, some whiny crap about ballots or deadlines or republican governors fucking around with rules at the last minute. They don't care about a debate or getting votes from blacks after NABJ or women after their declaration that "rape victims should ALL be forced to carry babies".
Create a mess, insert doubt for the moron cult to whine about, then they toss the whole mess to the Supreme Court they installed and openly bribed.

u/bitofadikdik Aug 03 '24
That’s why we gotta have a landslide win. They’ve openly replaced multiple election officials in any state they have the ability to, with deniers and sycophants.
It’s going to be a mess but we have the vote power to overcome it. As long as we vote.

As a non america, how is this legal? And why do you have to register to vote? And why do you have to state a party when registering? And can you only vote for the party you registered for?
→ More replies (1)76
u/Sky_Cancer Aug 03 '24
It's legal because they control the legislature and the state courts and when it gets to the SCOTUS, you have pieces of shit like John Roberts saying crap like that isn't illegal as long as it's done for partisan purposes and not based on race.
Alito and Thomas get the brunt of peoples hate with good reason but Roberts is every bit as nasty as them.
And can you only vote for the party you registered for?
Party registration only matters for Primaries. Some states have closed primaries where only people registered to a party can vote in that parties primary. Everyone can vote in the actual general election regardless of party affiliation.
You don't have to state a party. Many people register as independent but then you're potentially excluded from the primaries.
You have to register to vote because automatic registration like in other countries doesn't exist. It doesn't exist mostly because the GOP doesn't want more people voting. It's why they also oppose making it a federal holiday.

78
u/SkunkleButt Aug 03 '24
Same thing they always do, they try and purge voters from the system at the most least opportune time to make it nigh impossible to get reregistered in time by the point they figure out they were removed. This is why it is very important right now to constantly check your registration online to make sure you are still in the system because they will not let you know on purpose.
18
u/UNMANAGEABLE Aug 03 '24
Like in Texas you have to be registered for more than 30 days before the election. And you can only register in person.

I hesitate to speculate, but Trump’s recent comments about not having to vote after 2024 were pretty alarming, even for him. Still more alarming is the fact that’s also been saying it’s not so important to vote in 2024 itself either.
Let’s be honest, Trump is barely campaigning this time around. And picking someone like Vance wasn’t meant to reassure any hesitant sectors of the RNC coalition.
At this point I have little doubt the Trump campaign plans to use legal/electoral chaos and probably far-right violence to retake power.
As someone else said, this does mean the Dems need to win decisively in November. But I think what it also means is we need to have a plan for when this gets messy. By that I don’t just mean hiring lawyers to strategize a response to RNC nonsense.
I mean in the event that a Harris victory is clear but contested, we might need something on the level of mass civil disobedience to make it clear we will not tolerate a coup.

https://newrepublic.com/post/184517/terrifying-way-elon-musk-stealing-peoples-data-help-trump
It's so much worse that just the fake ads. In some states where the trump campaign wants more registration, the links do actually take the user to their state's registration page.
But for users in other states, the links go to a vague page that Elon uses for data scraping. No registration is ever done off that page, but the page takes the data and gives a thank you message, fooling users into thinking they did it correctly. It is supported and directly coordinated with the trump campaign.
Just as filthy as Elons fake video using a AI faked version of Kamala's voice. NBC confirmed the fake Kamala video was seen 150 million times thanks to Elon personally pushing it.

Yea they do. Trump has friendly election officials in states all over, especially all battleground states. If they refuse to certify because they believe there was fraud, even just an official in one county, the states numbers can’t be completely tallied. We should be very worried about this and other tricks they have up their sleveve, because it’s going to happen. I’m not saying Kamala is a lock to legitimately win, but when she does, things will get even messier than last time.

Lots of election deniers are in positions to certify results. Refuse to certify in any swing states that it looks like Harris is winning and try to deny her an electoral college victory. Push it to the house and have a republican majority give it to him.
8
16
u/IronSeagull Aug 03 '24
You don’t have to be Nostradamus to predict that there will be Republican-controlled counties in swing states that will refuse to certify their results if Harris wins the state.
15
u/praguepride Aug 03 '24
Their goal is to infiltrate election officials with loyalists that will sabotage and create chaos. Even if they arent outright cheating the goal is to create enough confusion to discredit the elections. Unfortunately for them Biden is in office so if thr SCOTUS steps in to try and throw the election to Trump the executive branch can re-exert control.
For swing states there needs to be an army of volunteers that arent dead set on destroying democracy.
The silver lining though is that most of their loyalists are recruited under the guise of stopping democrats from stealing the elections and once on the inside and they see nothing shady is going on most should back down. There was a self-reported trump fan on his recent jury that when presented with actual facts not filtered through the conservative media bubble he delivered a guilty verdicf.
Ultimately most republicans good decent people whipped into a frenzy of anger and fear thanks to constant bombardment of lies by Fox news etc.

Trump’s new terms also specify that no fact checking is allowed and his team said the moderators are not allowed to challenge any inaccuracies during the debate.
That is not “agreeing to a debate”, that is just a cowards way of weaseling out and setting his own stage. Trump will just turn that into a MAGA Rally with his Cult screaming. What a Fucking coward.

It was Trump who delayed the start of the recent NABJ interview because he refused to go on when he heard they were fact checking. Also the NYT during a Trump presidency never has to try to make news - it's made for them.
A trump presidency means 4 years of clicks, higher ad revenue, and stories that write themselves for the news media. Every typical liberal-ish (i.e fact-ish based) from NYT to NPR has moved so far to the right because they want a Trump presidency.

The NYT hasn't remotely been 'liberal' politically for a long, long time, and it's because of their own biases and political leanings rather than reacting to Limbaugh and others. There was no bigger cheerleader for the Iraq invasion than the NYT. They, in fact, LIED very wilfully to get us involved.
No one attacked Hillary Clinton more than the NYT, even running very misleading and specious articles right until election day. They might have attacked her more than Trump's own team did.
Going back further, they lied about the Holodomor. They made up the reaction to the famous Kitty Genovese incident whole cloth. Among almost endless other examples.

It’s ran by rich people and Trump will help them.

u/indoninjah Aug 03 '24
It’s really this simple lol. Every big company is, at worst, fine with another Trump presidency. Even liberal/left leaning news like MSNBC would love to have something to scream about for 24 hours a day

Hey now.
Its political section is also staffed by the most thin skinned people to have ever worked in American politics.
Nate Cohn, their polling guy, got into a fight with a friend of mine over Thanksgiving Weekend.
And last I checked, he was still sniping at the guy in articles six months later.

u/CombCultural5907 Aug 03 '24
I remember when Bret Stephens came on staff. Oh the uproar. Now he’s a moderate voice.
I cancelled my subscription already.

Nothing. The NYT has always been a bulwark for capital, and by extension a fascist lever. Check out their editorial section around the rise of the Nazis. Some craaaaazy stuff in there.

They need trump back.
When the democrats are in power, journalists have to research and understand complicated policy and international relations.
When the republicans, especially trump, are in power. They can just feed whatever he said into an AI machine and make an easy article out of it.

She should counter by offering a Black Lives Matters venue, nude debating, fact-checking of each answer before the next question, followed by a physical exam conducted by a doctor of Harris' choosing...and a full release of all tax returns for the past 20 years. That oughta do it.
Oh...and the NYT is ass.

u/cornybloodfarts Aug 03 '24
Don't say that, I really like ass.

The media in this country is absolute garbage.
The fairness doctrine needs to come back and the entire industry needs a rehaul. These people have been failing the country since the 80’s
116
u/Fivethenoname Aug 03 '24
Not garbage, fucking poisonous. Not failing, manipulating and attacking the country.
→ More replies (1)→ More replies (6)22
u/Ok_Spite6230 Aug 03 '24
The loss of the fairness doctrine is not the main reason why the media is so abhorrent now. The hyper consolidation of the media industry by monied interests who want to turn it into propaganda machines. That is the main issue.

yep, i cancelled my NYTIMES subscription when they had the guy write an op ed, that he didn't vote, and neither should you(he actually did vote, it was voter suppression). and then they kept having articles about biden being old, and articles trying to normalize trump. insane shit. trump is not normal, weird ass, felon ass, golf all day, orange man.
They had to change the title to 'why i don't vote' after complaints. but again, he did vote, these pieces of shit.

u/HamiltonHolland Aug 03 '24
I cancelled around the same time. I’ve had a NYT subscription for decades…

u/memomem Aug 03 '24
they changed the headline about an hour ago, but they left their original headline up for at least 8 hours.

Dude looks like the kind of guy I'd change seats for if he sat next to me on public transit. i.e. the kind of guy drinking a tallboy at the back of the bus while leering at teenagers.

Dems should never agree to debate terms set by Trump. It makes them look WEAK.
118
u/DonJuniorsEmails Aug 03 '24
They won't do it. I saw a great funny comparison:
"Trump made an agreement with the Olympic committee to enter a swimming race against Katie Ledecky, terms apply. Katie must wear a full suit of armor, and Trump gets to ride a jet ski. 'Very fair' said the former president"

So now when Harris says no, they will say "she's scared!"
They're so boring and predictable.

Actual actual headline: Trump proposes Fox News debate instead of ABC
There is no agreement here. Agree is completely the wrong word to use in this context as it implies a meeting of the minds and mutual understanding. There isn't any.
The fact that the NYT completely misused this word suggests they are completely ignorant of the English language or that they are trying to reframe reality to advance an agenda, which, at best, is dishonest

Partisan hacks, unfortunately. I don’t see any other explanation for their reporting
26
u/ArtVandelay009 Aug 03 '24
Why is the media using the phrase "Trump agrees..." instead of "Trump attempts..."?
106
u/Snytchelio Aug 03 '24
Trump is better for business. They need a tight race for their bottom line. We are watching capitalism eat democracy in real time.

u/FriedEggSammich1 Aug 03 '24
Trump is better for headlines. I’m not buying that he is better for business with little economic policy: tariffs over tax, manipulating interest rates and flooding oil production. With 100% border control and deporting millions of aliens he would actually harm the economy as Florida FAFO.
37
u/Snytchelio Aug 03 '24
I agree he’s worse for “business” in general. I meant he’s better for NYT’s business. My bad should have been more clear.

u/twoprimehydroxyl Aug 03 '24
Don't forget those sweet, sweet tax cuts. CEOs that were hard on the anti-Trump train in 2020 suddenly flipped to "maybe Trump won't be so bad" once he promised deeper tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations.
→ More replies (1)8
u/ThatGuyFromSpyKids3D Aug 03 '24
Exactly, CEOs can make up for shitty economic policy by just laying people off and screwing their own workforce. They like the bigger payouts and are willing to exploit others to get it.

Her response should be "No debate has been pitched to me or any member of my team. It's so weird that Trump just made the whole thing up out of thin air. Just weird that he does that so often." Then move on with her day and not mention it again.
37
u/New-Run-1105 Aug 03 '24
It’s entirely possible that the NYT uses A/B testing of different headlines and then serves the one that gets the most clicks. Integrity / objectivity gives way to traffic

Harris should just show his old Tweets where he says FoxNews is trash when he is mad at them…Also why would I debate on a network that already stated it is not in the news business but in the entertainment business…
