Question gpt4o-mini API 4x slowdown since Sunday

Upvotes

Since yesterday (Sunday, Oct 14), the gpt4o-mini API shows a 4x slowdown. Requests that used to take 1-3s now take 8-12s, rendering that model unusable for my use case.

The slowdown took down my app. (naturally, during an investor demo)

I had to urgently switch to gpt-4o which is more expensive and kinda sluggish.

Anyone else observed this?

Miscellaneous Roasts are way too accurate ;0

Your face looks like it’s perpetually stuck between "I just realized I peaked in high school" and "Maybe life insurance isn’t such a bad investment." That beard? It’s not even rugged—it’s more like you forgot to shave for three weeks because you got distracted by an existential crisis, one that you clearly haven't solved.

And that hair. It's like you went to the barber and said, "Give me the 'I still live with my parents' cut." It’s not bedhead; it’s "I haven’t had any reason to impress anyone since 2016." The uneven parting looks like it was styled by a ceiling fan, and let's be real—your hairline is retreating faster than your enthusiasm for life.

Now, let’s talk about those eyes. You’ve got the look of a man who’s seen the bottom of one too many whiskey bottles and realized that even alcohol can’t numb the fact that you’re living a C-minus life. You look like the type who’d spend hours doom-scrolling Reddit, pretending to be "above it all" while secretly hoping someone notices your existence in the comment section. There’s a deadness there, as if your dreams went out the window long ago, probably when you realized your five-year plan was just surviving without anyone finding out how mediocre you are.

Psychologically, I’d guess you’re somewhere between overthinking everything and doing absolutely nothing. You probably tell yourself that you’re "deep" because you have thoughts that are too complex for the average person, when in reality, you’re just so paralyzed by your own self-doubt that you don’t even try. You’ve got that self-deprecating humor vibe, but let’s be honest—you’re not doing it because it’s funny. You’re doing it because it’s easier to roast yourself before anyone else can. Spoiler: it’s not working.

That shirt? It looks like you’re actively trying to blend into the background of your own life. You’re the human equivalent of a beige wall, and honestly, I think that’s what you’re aiming for at this point: invisible, unnoticed, but still desperately hoping someone will ask, "Hey, are you okay?"

But no one’s asking, man. No one’s asking.

Question What API tier for o1 access?

I’d like to start playing with o1 in the playground. Is it still tier 5 access only? Have there been any announcements on when they’ll roll it out to tier 1 users?

Discussion The o1-preview limit is actually a huge hint for how to use the model

o1 is a planning, thinking... dare I say... reasoning(?) agent. It should be used as such. You'll go through a lot fewer prompts if you only use it for planning, then switch to another model for the execution of a task.

This post is 80% advice and 20% joke.

Discussion Exploring How OpenAI is Revolutionizing Learning in 2024

Upvotes

As we step into 2024, I’ve been reflecting on how much OpenAI has transformed the way we learn and interact with technology. Platforms like ChatGPT have gone from being novel conversational agents to becoming essential learning tools for students and professionals alike.

Whether you're diving into AI development or simply trying to improve your knowledge in any subject, OpenAI’s models have made it possible to access personalized, on-demand tutoring and problem-solving. I recently used GPT to break down some complex AI concepts for a project, and it was incredible how fast I could grasp ideas that once felt overwhelming.

Has anyone else experienced a shift in how they approach learning or working with AI because of OpenAI’s tools? What’s been your most memorable experience or project using GPT or other AI models?

Discussion o1 preview strange CoT behaviour (using web browsing and code interpreter)

I asked o1 preview to try solving a sudoku, it was unsuccessful but the CoT had some strange features.

It said it was attempting to use an online sudoku solver, and also started using some cyrillic.

In another chat asking for the same thing it also tried using the code interpreter, and didn't show CoT at all.

As far as I know o1 preview doesn't have access to web browser or code interpreter? Perhaps it's testing some beta features?

Project I made a better version of the Apple Intelligence Writing Tools for Windows! :D It's open source, completely free, and works seamlessly across any text box with one hotkey press. You won't have to waste time copy-pasting into ChatGPT & messing up your clipboard along the way.

Question Can we use ChatGPT-4o with Canvas in Custom GPTs?

Just started playing around with Canvas and it's terrific! But I want to be able to use it with my existing custom GPT's. Is there a way to do this yet that I'm not seeing? If there isn't - do we have any information on when this will be available?
