Welcome to /r/FitNotesApp

Welcome to the Reddit community for FitNotes - a simple but powerful workout tracking app for Android.

FitNotes started out as a bare bones replacement for a paper notebook. It allowed you to record the sets completed in each workout and view sets recorded previously, but that was it! Despite this minimal functionality the announcement post was met with a surprising amount of enthusiasm and the feedback received helped immensely to define the early direction of the app.

Since its initial release FitNotes has undergone a vast number of improvements with the inclusion of new features such as progress graphs, personal record tracking, workout stats, training routines, and more, all the while trying to remain as simple as possible to use and guided by the continuous feedback of the FitNotes userbase.

There's still a lot of work to be done however and your feedback is as important as ever in helping to shape future releases and ensure that each new update lives up to the quality that FitNotes users have come to expect.

Here's how you can help:

Thank you for your continued support and stay tuned for more news and announcements.

James

Session name

Is it possible to add a name for the day? I have three different trainings for push/pull/leg. And I have to click and scroll through the days, to find the right one. Maybe you can add the workout name at the top.

Add RPE to sets?

You had once said that you were considering to add an RPE and/or an RIR option...are you still considering it? I think that's the only thing missing in this app. Fitnotes Supporter user here - love your app! :)

WearOS App (Galaxy Watch 4)

Hi, I love your app and use it every time I work out. Nothing else really comes close to the same balance of features and simplicity. Thank you!

I think it would be great if there was a WearOS companion app, which would make it easier to enter data or even workout without a phone completely. For me at least, the phone gets in the way during certain exercises - even while pocketed. Like other watch apps, FitNotes could have reduced functionality in the limited UI (maybe "+", "Log All" from another workout, changing reps/weight, vibration for set timers) and then sync with the main app when the phone or network is present.

As a fellow developer I realize it's a long shot requesting a substantial feature like this for a possibly niche use case, and I'm not even sure whether you actively work on the app... but I wanted to make sure the request was out there in case it's something you find useful or interesting enough to implement.

Subscription/donation?

Hey,

I know that the app has the premium sideapp but I was wondering if there is a way to support the development even further?

Don't you think that a yearly cheap subscription would be a good thing?

I would pay $10 a year or+ to support the app. To get a google fit integration or Android 12 design

Best

Automatic backup to file?

Thanks for the great app! Not sure if this is the place for feature suggestions, but are there any plans on making a scheduled backup to file? Like the one for google drive but just to the device. Then I can sync that file to my server with syncthing. I would prefer not to use google drive if I can avoid it. Cheers!

Plate calculator for dumbbells

Was just wondering if there was a way to let the app know that you're currently using a pair of dumbbells, and not just a single bar?

Specifically, my issue is that after changing an exercise to another (in this case ez bar curls to dumbbell curls) my volume for the workout has decreased because each exercise doesn't take into account that I'm using two dumbbells simultaneously, and thinks I'm just using 1 30kg bar for example, where in reality it'd be 60kg in total.

TL;DR anyway to switch from 1 bar in use for the exercise in plate calculator to two dumbbells?

Red dot in Graph

Generally v have blue dot for all set in graph. I think it will be good to have red dot for max or top set in graph. It will help easily to see max set.

Create a workout

Is it possible to create a workout without actually doing the workout? Eg. one workout is called "leg/chest" or "monday". When the workout is chosen, all the exercises and sets is automatically loaded in. (i know the feature "copy workout", but i think it would be nice to label each session/split. Would also be very easy to keep track in calendar)

How to add 1 super set in a exercice?

I did leg extentions 50lbs x12 super set with 50lbs dumbbell lunge x40 but on the last exercice I did leg extention 50lbs x12 then 25lbs x15 instead of immidiately doing walking lunges. Any option that can do this? Or do I need a pro account?

Best app I use, every day. Moved to a new phone but the backup file isn't found when I try to restore, plus, exercises I've added don't appear. What am I doing wrong?

Timer

First: Thanks for a great app. Just what I needed.

Then: For workouts that are based on time, such as plank, would it be possible to include a timer in the track section? Now I have to use the stopwatch on my clock and transfer it to FitNotes. It would be nice to have the timer included. But not a big deal - just nice to have.

PS! I often give a small sum to apps and developers I appreciate the work. I have the pay version, but please include a function to send you a beer sometimes.

Ladder Sets - Best Way to Track?

Howdy,

Quite often I'll do exercises that are ascending or descending pyramids, or ladders.

The first isn't much of an issue really, it's just repeated sets with one more (or less) rep each time.

For ladders though it's a bit different. It may be for example a 20 minute AMRAP of say, 3 sets of 4-6-10 reps.

Does anyone have a good way of grouping these? It isn't a superset so can't do it that way.

It doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things, but it'd be nice to quickly see "did I do more or less ladders".

Thanks!

integration of RPE (rating of perceived exertion scale)

Hello,

what do you think about integrating RPE for measuring the intensity of a set? In my opinion this would improve the ability to compare different sets, because I do not train every set to failure.

for example:

Set 1: 8 x 100kg RPE 8 (2 reps in reserve) => est. 1RM = 133kg

Set 2: 8 x 100kg RPE 9 (1 rep in reserve) => est. 1RM = 128.5kg

A word of appreciation and some suggestion

Hello folks,

I have spent more time then i care to admit in searching for "the Best" workout tracker app. That's just how i am, i must discover which one has all the features i need, isn't to bloated and with a clean interface among other things. Something was always missing.

So in my quest for the holy grail of workout apps i have downloaded countless numbers of them, used them, compared, then uninstalled, sometimes even installed them again... If there is a workout app in the Google Playstore, there is a big chance that i tried it.

And i must say, i haven't found any other app that offers so many stats and ways to customize them, ways to reorder exercises, routines... You can even make your own category for exercises, which is so nice, i use to make my own flexibility group for stretching exercises. Anyway, it is so feature rich, but not in the "over the top, in your face" way, but just quality of life, if that makes sense. You know when you think in your head, it would be nice if i could do this, and most times you can.

I am absolutely sure this is one of, if not the best workout tracker/logger app out there.

With that said, after using so many different apps, i have a few suggestions to make it even better:

  1. It would be nice if we could add weeks to the workout programs. This would work wonders for more advanced workout programming.
  2. To be able to make supersets when creating a routine template. ATM we can only make supersets after we add exercises to a workout log.
  3. To see a muscle breakdown of my Workout routine template, so i can see if all muscles got enough volume.
  4. Implement some way of progression indicator that would show how much more volume(or 1RM) i did compared to last session of the same exercise. Percentage wise, for example, at the bottom of the track tab, one line that says "18% more volume" or "+18%" in green if its positive or red if its negative. It would be good for motivation and to easily implement progressive overload.
  5. When logging a workout, it would be really great to record of how hard was the set, like RPE and RIR.
  6. Option to add warm up sets
  7. Adding multiple set types, like warmup, drop set, failure set etc. And to be able to add our own set type

What does everyone else thinks about my suggestions? Pls leave your comments and suggestions bellow.

I want to say a big thank you to James for making such an awesome app. I already bought a supporter pack and wouldn't have any problems paying a small subscription fee every month.

Every other app that is worth a penny has a monthly plan.

If you read until the end, props to you and a big thank you.

Cya later, I am out.

Categories within categories? One exercise counting to multiple categories?

Hello to everyone and big thanks to the apps creator! Best logging app out there!

I would like to see option to create categories within categories. For example: Quads could include subcategories like Squats, Leg Presses and Leg Extensions.

And maybe also option to count one exercise to multiple categories, like a kettlebell thruster could be counted both in legs (or squats/quads) and shoulders category?

Any hope seeing something like this in the future versions? Anyone else interested in similar?

FitNotes 1.23 - Alpha

Previous Update Post

Hey all

I've been slowly picking development up again since Christmas and the next update is almost complete.

The main new feature is a Workout Timer which can be used to track workout times and durations and I've selected a number of smaller quality-of-life improvements that have been bugging me for a while.

The update isn't as substantial as I would like, given the time that has passed since the last release, but I would like to get something out soon so that everyone knows the project is still active and can start benefiting from the new improvements.

A full change log will follow when the update is ready for public beta, but before that happens I would be grateful for a handful of volunteers to help with some initial alpha testing. If you're interested in helping out with that then please get in touch by going to Settings > Feedback within the app and I will add you to the list.

Cheers

James

See Category tags in Day view

If I view the calendar, or the full list of workouts, I can see what category each of the exercises falls under.

I can't, however, see this flag anywhere in the Day view, which makes it more difficult to sort/reorder exercises (as this is the only place it can be done) to ensure I either am or am not backing the same muscle group into each other.

Changing Devices

Hi All,

If I get a new (android) smartphone, and download FitNotes on the new one from Google Play, will the data/setup of FitNotes in the previous phone transfer over (if not, how do I tansfer that previous version to the new phone?) Thanks for your help!
