Miscellaneous LPT Whenever you go to the doctors make a list of what you want to discuss or address
Even the most well organized person can get flustered at the doctors office so having a lost of exactly what you wanted to discuss can save you missing something and either going without an answer or having to make a second appointment.

what is something that feels like a "cheat code" in life, but most people don't realise it?
[CelebrityNumberSix] For 4 years thousands of Redditors in r/CelebrityNumberSix have been obsessively searching for the specific celebrity photograph that was used to make a 2008 curtain print bought in Finland. A redditor just found it.

On day 4. Just found out my husband has been cheating on me
I found out this morning. I left his phone with the evidence open on his pillow while he was sleeping then walked a mile angrily outside. I passed my usual spot and thought about getting a tall boy.. maybe to hurt myself or to hurt him because he wants me to be sober. Idk. But I kept walking. I went home for a moment but I can’t sit in that house so I’m walking again right now. Unfortunately I live in a big city so every corner there is a place where I could grab a beer and sulk. I’m trying not to do that. Any words of wisdom would be great
UPDATE: I did stop and get a tall boy. I put it in my backpack and kept walking. I was planning on finding a hidden corner or alley outside to chug it in. But then I read some comments about getting a coffee or food and I was like fuck it I’ll walk another mile to my favorite coffee shop. Bought an overpriced coffee and sat on a bench outside. Drank some coffee then threw away the unopened tall boy and walked to a friends house.
Thank you all for your support. IWNDWYT

🏠 Home & Apartment Just print from Fed Ex.
Over a decade ago installing a printer was really really really easy.
Then some moron decided that printers should be wireless instead of being wired. Wireless printers are a pain in the ass to install. They are useless. Being able to print out wirelessly is 100 percent useless. I'm pretty sure at least 99 percent of companies use wired printers.
Now I just print at FedEx. If you don't print much , printing from FedEx is cheap. I think it's about 20 cents a black and white page? Anybody else saying fuck to owning a printer these days?
Edit: I was unemployed since late 2022. I just got a new job last month. Thanks for reminding me I can print at work for free!

A snake game made entirely in the BIOS without any OS or bootloader
github.comWhen I made my original snake game some people argued the only reason it was possible, was that the PC already had the BIOS and OS on it so what I call a "58 bytes snake game" is not only 58 bytes because the BIOS and OS are each thousands upon thousands of bytes.
While it's true that without those wrappers the program wouldn't be that small, I don't think it's a valid argument, but anyways, I made a POC snake game that can work without any BIOS, bootloader, or OS, all the code, including the hardware initialization, fits in 114 bytes (and filler) and runs on QEMU.
I also commented every single line in the code so you can use it to learn about how the BIOS initializes the hardware, although I tried making it very minimal (just like the original snake game), so there is not much to see.
The main problem I encountered when making this was the icount. The icount is an optional QEMU argument that allows you to set a certain speed to the emulated machine.
I wanted to use icount=20, however, someone on the QEMU team limited the icount to 10 max although everything works just fine for icount<=30.
I made a PR to the QEMU project to fix it by raising the max of icount to 30 and doing the necessary adjustments to the code to enable it to work with the higher icount.
However, one of the devs at QEMU noted that icount is deprecated so I should use the ips plugin. The problem now was that my QEMU version (5.2.0) was incompatible with plugins, I tried changing to 9.1.0 and the plugin worked! But now my BIOS didn't output anything to the screen.
I had a hunch the problem had something to do with the changes made to the VGA protocol of QEMU between those versions, so I did a binary search between the versions and found that my program works perfectly fine up until v9.0.0-rc0.
So now all I had to do was skim through the changes made between versions 8.2.6 and 9.0.0-rc0 and find something that could lead to the screen staying empty.
I looked at diffs for a whole hour and finally, I found it, I couldn't believe I missed it all along, someone started to use the byte masking property of the graphics registers.
I quickly added an output of 0xFF08 to port 0x3CE and it indeed fixed the issue and I was able to use ips successfully.

Dear Google, please let Gemini do it's thing. Stop being so restrictive.
I'm frustrated with Gemini's limitations compared to other AI assistants. It can't analyze images woth people or discuss political topics, making it much less useful. Just a few examples of many.
These restrictions hinder innovation and limit what we can do with AI.
